Williams's roots are in Leše, the home of her great-grandmother Marija (Mary) Bohinjec, who moved to the USA at the end of the 19th century.
The memorial room was opened personally in Slovenia by Williams in 2009. On this occasion she made a gift of several objects relating to her space exploration as well as some personl items and photographs. Since then she has helped furnish it further with results of her missions and some other interesting items and exhibits.
In addition to Sunita's photographs and items from her space missions (clothing, food, etc.), the memorial room displays her kinship relations with the Bohinj family from Leše, among them Sunita's great-grandmother Marija (Mary) Bohinjc, and messages that Sunita sent from space to her compatriots in Leše.
For refreshment you’ll be offered a true Leše snack, consisting of a cup of “star” tea, a slice of bread with homemade minced lard and homegrown garlic. Every visitor also receives a picture of Sunita from her most recent visit to the memorial room.
