Recommendations for mountain bikers

I only ride on trails.

I avoid areas where cycling could cause unwanted environmental impacts or conflicts with other users or landowners. The way I ride affects landowners' and managers' attitudes towards cyclists.

I leave no trace.

I cycle on suitable terrain. In wet conditions, I choose an appropriate path as muddy trails can be damaged faster. I avoid skidding and use existing trails without shortcuts. I take everything I brought with me.

I never scare animals.

Sudden appearances, fast movements, and noise can scare both wild and domestic animals. I give animals the chance to move away.

I control my bike.

I observe speed limits, recommendations, and my own abilities. Carelessness can lead to accidents. I always expect obstacles behind corners and blind spots.

I yield the right of way.

I don't scare other users and alert them to my presence. A friendly greeting is always welcome. I yield the right of way to other non-motorized users unless the trail is designated for cyclists only. I choose less crowded paths.

I plan.

I prepare according to my equipment, skills, and trail specifics. I am self-sufficient and carry food, first aid, and spare equipment. I always wear a helmet and appropriate safety gear.
