route

Tržič - Dovžan Gorge - Jelendol - Medvodje - Bukov Hrib (Beech Hill) - Pečovnik - Jezersko

ROUTE DESCRIPTION

The starting point for cycling tours is in the city centre, opposite the Tržič bus station. Parking is possible in public parking areas (parking lots at the Municipality of Tržič, on Predilniška Road at the entrance to the city-BPT, at the Tržič Olympians Hall, along the street Za Mošenikom, among others).

Go through Tržič along the main road to the northeast (towards Lom and the Dovžan Gorge). At Slap continue straight through the Dovžan Gorge, where the road will start to climb towards Dolina. From Dolina to Jelendol, the route stays pleasantly level and cool, following the course of the Tržič Bistrica River. Below the Born Mansion in Jelendol, keep to the right, following the gravel road that runs along the valley towards Medvodje.

In Medvodje continue straight on and after 1.1 km turn right towards Bukov Hrib (Beech Hill). You will circumvent the hill along a beautiful scenic road; below it turn right onto a side road and on returning to the main road continue straight through the intersection. Continue ascending and after 1 km turn right at the crossroads. After just under 5 km of ascent, you can leave the road. You will see hiking trail signposts; follow the trail to the right up to the saddle. You will be very close to the Slovenian-Austrian border as you follow the forest trail towards Pečovnik (don’t turn onto the marked trail to the right that descends towards Jezersko, but follow the trail that traverses the slope). You will join a better trail that leads towards Dolga Njiva: descend to the right to the remains of the Pečovnik border post. Here a forest road begins, along which you descend past the abandoned travertine quarry to Lower Jezersko.

good to know

The route ends in Spodnje (Lower) Jezersko. From here you will need transport back to the starting point. It is of course also possible to return by road via Preddvor - Zg. Bela - Bašelj - Trstenik - Goriče - Golnik - Križe - Tržič (about 35 km).
